02 How it works
Download once. Then it's yours offline.
You need the internet one time, to fetch the library. After that the Offline Brain runs entirely on your laptop: no account, no login, no server to go down.
Start it tonight, use it tomorrow: the first download is about 3 hours on a 100 Mbps line, and it runs on its own. Or wait for the USB, ready to plug in.

Run the installer
It checks your free space, then fetches Wikipedia and WikiMed from Kiwix's official mirrors and the AI model from its publisher. Leave it running.

Dark living room during a power cut, laptop on battery showing an offline encyclopedia page, light from a headtorch on the table, phone beside it showing no signal. Calm, not scary. No faces.

It all keeps working. On battery it runs as long as your laptop does.
Needs nothing
What it needs
An ordinary laptop.
We test every build on a mid-range Windows laptop and a Mac before it goes out. Exact versions and the assistant's memory need are listed in the setup guide.
Windows or Mac
Laptop or desktop. The setup guide lists the versions we test on.
More than 119 GB free
Wikipedia with images is 119 GB alone. The installer checks before it starts.
For the assistant
The library runs on any recent laptop. The assistant's memory need is listed with the model.
Wikipedia on your phone
With the free Kiwix app on Android or iPhone you can copy Wikipedia across. The assistant is laptop only.
